2009 Scion XD Remote Head Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional
A woman in Scripps Ranch called me on a Monday morning. She was parked at the Lenscrafters on Scripps Poway Parkway and her 2009 Scion XD was sitting there refusing to cooperate. The remote head key had stopped working over the weekend, and when she called the Toyota dealer, the earliest opening was Thursday, four days out. She had work every day that week and no backup vehicle. Thursday was not a real answer.
I was there by early afternoon.
The remote head key on these is a combined unit, so the transponder that talks to the immobilizer and the remote buttons that run the doors all live in the same piece of plastic. When I looked at her existing key, the CR2016 inside was so depleted it barely registered on the tester. The remote was functionally dead. The transponder was still limping along on residual charge, which is why the car technically started sometimes, but not reliably.
I cut a replacement key blade to her vehicle and programmed a fresh remote head unit on site, running the Toyota key registration procedure through my programmer. Tested the lock, unlock, and trunk release buttons. Tested the start sequence. Walked around the car and confirmed everything was responding correctly before I packed up.
She was back on the road in under half an hour. Her total was a fraction of what the dealer quoted, and she did not lose four days of her week waiting for a Thursday appointment that assumed the car would even make it to the dealership.
