Near RB Town Center, off one of the side streets that feeds into the main shopping stretch, a driver flagged me down after calling. He had driven his 2013 Scion XD to run errands and noticed his key was getting stiff and gritty in the ignition. Not stuck, but close. I decoded the cuts from the door lock, which gave me clean wafer readings without touching the ignition at all. Cut a fresh blade to match, assembled it into a new remote head key shell, and ran the transponder registration through the OBD port. One cycle. Car started on the first turn.
Then I handed him back the key and watched him run through the buttons. Lock, unlock, panic. All working. The CR2016 in the new key was fresh, so the range was immediate and solid.
He had been in the parking lot maybe forty minutes total from the time I arrived. He mentioned the dealer had told him to bring it in and leave it, probably two days minimum. For a job this clean, that wait never made sense.
