2014 Scion XD Remote Head Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional
Got a call from someone over in The Crosby. She needed a spare for her 2014 Scion xD and had a story to go along with it.
A few months earlier she'd called a locksmith she found through a random ad. No license posted, no company name on the van, just a guy with a bag of blanks. He spent an hour trying to make something work, handed her a key that turned but wouldn't start the car, and left with cash in his pocket. She figured it was a programming issue and lived without a spare until the main key started acting up and she got nervous.
She'd looked up my BSIS license number before dialing. That's the kind of thing that only happens after someone gets burned once.
I met her at her car. The xD was sitting in the shade and she stood back while I worked. The remote head key format on this car means the blade, the transponder, and the remote are one unit, and programming runs through the OBD port with the right diagnostic equipment. No improvising, no generic blanks that almost fit.
The new spare was cut to her vehicle and registered to the immobilizer. She tested it herself, locked and unlocked from a few rows over, started the car. Nothing dramatic. Just a key that worked the way it was supposed to.
She mentioned the dealer had quoted her a number that made her laugh out loud. I left her with a receipt, a license number she could verify, and a working spare. That was the whole job.
