2011 Scion XD Remote Head Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional
I was already running a job in South Poway on a Friday night when the call came in. A couple had walked out of a spot near the Poway Road corridor to find their 2011 Scion xD sitting there completely unresponsive to the remote.
Doors wouldn't unlock from the fob. They tried the buttons a few more times, the way everyone does, then one of them pulled up a search and called me.
They asked if I could get there that night. I was already twelve minutes out.
When I got to them, the car had not been locked out. The physical key blade still worked the door, so they were not stranded, just stuck with a dead remote and a key that needed attention. The shell had a small crack along the seam, the kind that happens slowly over years of pocket carry and nobody notices until it matters.
I popped the fob open on my work surface right there in the lot. The CR2016 was reading low, and the battery contact had a slight deflection on one side. Swapped the cell, reseated the contact, and tested the remote. Still inconsistent, which told me the crack in the housing had let enough moisture and grit in over time to cause real trouble.
New shell, transferred the internals, programmed the replacement unit to the vehicle using my equipment. Tested every button. Tested the start. Everything confirmed before I closed my kit.
The whole call was under forty minutes from the time they reached me to the time they drove home. They mentioned the dealer had told them the wait for a key appointment was days out. That was not a factor by the time I left the lot.
When the parts are already in the van, a Friday night call does not cost anyone a lost weekend.
