The parking lot off Moonlight Beach was full on a Saturday morning. A woman had her 2024 Crown sitting right at the edge of the lot, and she was standing next to it holding the fob like it had personally let her down.
Her fob had been acting up for about a week. Intermittent. Sometimes the door handles would wake up when she approached, sometimes nothing. Then that morning it stopped responding entirely and a key-not-detected warning came up on the dash. She tried holding the fob to the start button and it started once, then refused again. Then I walked her through the emergency blade inside the fob - she had no idea it was there. Showed her how to get in manually if the battery ever dies completely and how to use the fob against the start button as a backup.
She had been mentally preparing to go to the dealer. The whole job was done before the next group of surfers finished loading their boards.
