On the remote flip key, the blade is not hidden, it is the flip itself. Press the release button and the blade swings out. That is your mechanical backup right there, built into the fob you are already carrying.

What some EOS owners miss is that the driver door has a physical lock cylinder concealed under a small cover on the handle. If the remote electronics die completely and you cannot unlock with the fob, you use the flipped-out blade directly in that cylinder to get in. The cover pops off with the blade tip. Once you are in, the blade goes into the ignition the same as always, and if the transponder side of the key is still alive, the car starts normally. If it stalls immediately after cranking, that points to a transponder or immobilizer issue to diagnose on site.

I replaced the CR2032 in my EOS flip key and the remote still barely works. What else could it be?

Battery is the first move but not the only one. If range is still short after a fresh CR2032, check that the battery is seated flat against both contacts. A slightly bowed contact or a battery that got pried out instead of popped can leave a gap that kills range even with a good cell.

Beyond that, the remote may need to be re-synced to the car. VW flip key remotes on this generation can lose sync if the battery runs all the way dead or if the remote is triggered many times outside the vehicle's range. There is an onboard sync procedure for this year that does not require diagnostic equipment. If re-sync does not bring the range back, the board inside the fob housing may have a hairline crack at the blade hinge, which is a common failure point on flip keys that get dropped. At that point the housing and board get replaced, the existing transponder chip carries over if it is still good, and you are back to full function.

My 2007 EOS starts fine but then stalls within a few seconds every time. Is this a key or immobilizer problem?

That start-then-stall pattern is a classic immobilizer symptom. The engine fires because the starter got power, but the immobilizer did not fully recognize the transponder chip in the key, so it cuts the fuel or ignition signal almost immediately.

On the 2007 EOS this can happen when the transponder chip inside the flip key is damaged, when the antenna ring around the ignition cylinder has a wiring issue, or when the immobilizer module itself has lost the key from its memory. A worn or cracked key housing that moves the chip away from the center of the ignition cylinder can also cause intermittent reads that produce exactly this symptom. It is worth trying a second key if you have one. If the second key starts and holds, the first key is the problem.
