That's the exact setup when I got a call from a guy whose EOS was sitting in a lot near Moonlight Beach with no key. He'd lost his only one somewhere on the trail and had been back over the path twice. Nothing. He was looking at a long wait for a tow, a Monday dealer appointment, and probably a week without a car.
I told him I could come that afternoon.
When I pulled up, his EOS was right where he said it would be, locked up tight. I started at the door cylinder. Using a pick and decode tool on the VW keyway, I worked through the wafer positions and pulled the cut code. That step takes patience but it's clean and leaves the lock exactly as it was.
From there I moved to the OBD port. All-keys-lost on this platform means erasing the immobilizer's key memory entirely and enrolling a fresh key as the first and only registered unit. The process has a timed sequence built in, so you're watching a countdown on the tool screen while it runs. New flip key cut to the code I decoded, chip programmed, remote functions registered.
He turned the key in the ignition for the first time in that same parking lot. Took about 45 minutes start to finish. He saved a good chunk compared to the dealer route, and he didn't have to arrange a tow or take a day off work.
The only thing I told him before I left: get a spare made now while the first key is in hand. All-keys-lost is always more involved than adding a second key to a working car.
