2015 Volkswagen EOS
Key Replacement - Save vs Dealer in San Diego

Q: Do I need to tow my EOS to the dealer if I have no working key?

No. A mobile locksmith with the right VW-compatible programming tools handles all-keys-lost on site. Towing adds cost before the dealer even opens a work order, and then you are waiting on parts and scheduling on top of that. We drive to the vehicle. The EOS is late enough in its production run that dealer parts availability is not always fast, which makes the on-site option more practical, not less.

Q: How long does an all-keys-lost replacement take on the 2015 EOS?

Plan for about an hour on site. The 2015 EOS uses OBD-accessible programming for the immobilizer, so there is no module removal or bench work needed the way newer platforms require. Cut the blade, read security data, enroll the key, verify. The longer version of this job at a dealer usually involves waiting days for the key to be ordered before the actual work even starts. We carry the hardware and show up ready.

Q: My EOS fob remote stopped working but the key still starts the car. Is the fob dead or is it something fixable?

Start with the CR2032 battery. On the EOS flip key, the remote and the transponder share the same housing, and a weak battery will kill the remote range and button response long before it affects the transponder. Pop the case open carefully at the seam, drop in a fresh CR2032, and check that the battery contacts are lying flat and making solid contact with the cell.

Q: Can I buy a replacement EOS flip key online and program it myself?

You can buy the hardware, but you cannot finish the job without programming equipment. The transponder chip inside the flip key has to be enrolled to the vehicle's immobilizer before it will start the car. There is no ignition-turn sequence or button trick that does this on the EOS. The remote portion also needs to be registered. So if you order a key and show up with it, we can program it.

2015 Volkswagen EOS Remote Flip Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional

I got a call from a woman over in East Valley, Escondido. She had a 2015 Volkswagen EOS and one key left. It was her only one, and the fob portion had stopped working. The blade still started the car, but the remote buttons were dead. She wanted a spare made before the situation got worse.

She mentioned she had looked up my BSIS license number before calling. That number is publicly searchable on the California Bureau of Security and Investigative Services website. I told her to look it up, because that is exactly what it is there for. Background check cleared, liability insurance current, registered business. That is the floor for anyone doing this work in California.

I met her at the vehicle. The original key was intact, which made the job cleaner. I cut a new blade to match her vehicle, then connected to the OBD port and registered the new flip key through the immobilizer. The remote functions came up at the same time during programming. Walked every button afterward, checked lock, unlock, and the trunk release. Everything responded.

She asked what the dealer had quoted. I told her I do not give quotes for other shops. What I do know is she left with a working spare, same day, in her parking lot, and she did not have to tow the car anywhere or wait on a parts order.

The 2015 EOS is at the end of its production run. Getting a spare made while the original key is still in hand is always the easier version of this job.

Volkswagen EOS Mobile Service FAQ

Real costs, no dealer surprises

I lost all my keys to my 2015 Volkswagen EOS. Can you still make a new one?▼

Yes. All-keys-lost on the EOS is a job we handle on site. The flip key carries both the transponder and the remote functions, so the process involves cutting a new blade to your vehicle and registering the new key through the OBD port. When all keys are gone, the immobilizer needs to be accessed to generate the correct security data first, then the new key gets enrolled.
