2005 Volvo S80
Key Replacement - Save vs Dealer in San Diego

2005 Volvo S80 Remote Flip Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional

He was in the economy garage at the airport, rolling his bag back from a week out of town, and the S80 just sat there. No response to any button. Doors locked. He tried the fob probably fifteen times before he accepted it.

He called the Volvo dealer. Thursday was the earliest they could take him. It was Monday afternoon. A tow from that garage would have been its own problem, and he still wouldn't have had the car until the end of the week at best. He found EZ Car Keyz and called instead.

I was at the garage in Buena Creek within 40 minutes. Got the door open with the mechanical blade in the flip key, the way these are designed to work when the remote side is dead. Once I was in, I connected my programming unit to the OBD port and pulled up the central electronics module. His key was still registered. The fob battery had dropped out during the week the car sat, and that had generated a communication fault that the module was holding onto. A straight battery swap would have left that fault sitting there. I cleared it, confirmed the remote was still enrolled, seated a fresh CR2032, and walked every button.

Lock, unlock, trunk, and the remaining functions all came back. The car started. He drove home that same evening.

The dealer visit, the tow, and three days minimum without his car never happened. He saved a good chunk and left the garage in the same parking space the S80 had been sitting in all week.
