A woman over in Shadowridge called me on a Tuesday morning. Her 2011 XC60 would not start. She had inserted the key into the dash slot, got nothing, tried again, and eventually the car threw a key-not-detected warning.

I swapped the battery, reseated it properly, and connected my diagnostic equipment to the OBD port. The body control module had logged a fault tied to the failed communication event, not a hardware failure. I cleared it, cycled the key, and the car started clean. Ran through the slot a few more times to confirm it was repeatable, then tested the remote functions on the fob.
She did not need a new ignition module. She did not need to tow the car anywhere. The dealer's quote was for parts she did not need. She saved a good chunk, did not pay for a tow, and was driving to work within the hour.
