A guy in Bostonia called me on a Monday afternoon. He'd just landed at the airport, walked to the economy garage after a week away, and his 2023 XC60 sat there completely dark. Nothing. I swapped the CR2032, connected my programming unit to the OBD port, and cleared the fault. Key came back online, touch unlock on both handles checked out, all four buttons verified working.
I left him a spare CR2032 for the glovebox. He drove home that same evening. The car never left the space he'd parked it in a week earlier.
