2024 Volvo Xc60 Smart Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional
There's a school drop-off loop near Moonlight Beach that I've driven through a few times on jobs. Parents stacked up, timers running, nobody with a spare minute. That's exactly where this call came from.
A mom in a 2024 XC60 was at pickup when her fob stopped responding completely. Doors wouldn't unlock from the handle. Push-button start showed a key-not-detected warning. She had maybe 25 minutes before after-care charged her a late fee, her nearest Volvo dealer was a solid 40 minutes away, and when she called them they told her the first available appointment was the following week.
I was already in Encinitas. I told her to stay put.
When I got there I started with the basics. Battery first. CR2032 was reading low on my tester, which was already telling a story, but swapping it didn't fully clear the issue. The fob had dropped out of the vehicle's memory, probably a combination of the weak battery and a power event the car had gone through. So I connected to the OBD port, ran the key registration sequence through my diagnostic equipment, and re-enrolled her fob.
After that I walked every function. Handle unlock on both front doors, the lock button, the start button. Everything behaved. Total time from my arrival to her driving out of that lot was under 35 minutes.
She made pickup with a few minutes to spare. The dealer, for context, would have been a tow, a week-long wait, and a bill that was a significant step up from what she paid me.
