Do you need to tow your 2020 Ford Fusion to the dealer? Probably not. For most Ford models from the mid-2000s through the late 2010s, I handle all-keys-lost right at the car.
A customer in Ventura had his only key die at home late at night. His Fusion was sitting in the driveway with a push-to-start system and no fob the car would recognize. He assumed a tow was inevitable and had already started planning his week around not having a car. I told him to stay home and that I'd come to him.
I connected my Smart Pro to the OBD port and ran the Ford smart key AKL procedure, which clears the old key data and learns new fobs to the car's body control module. His smart key, FCC ID M3N-A2C931426, was a 5-button proximity fob with an HU101 emergency blade inside. I programmed it in his driveway at 10pm. He seemed pretty surprised the whole thing could happen that late at night.
His total was about 281. The dealer would have been 478 plus the tow. There are a small number of very new Ford platforms where the immobilizer is locked to Ford's online system and my tools don't support AKL yet, and those do go to the dealer. But for the vast majority of Fords on the road, 2005 through about 2022, I do all-keys-lost on-site every week. If your model is one of the rare exceptions, I'll tell you straight up instead of wasting your time.
