Got a call from a guy in the East Ventura neighborhood. His 2017 Ford Fusion was sitting on the shoulder with a broken key blade stuck in the ignition. The blade had snapped clean at the neck.
He had already talked to another locksmith who told him the whole ignition cylinder needed to be drilled out and swapped. New cylinder, new keys, tow it somewhere, leave it for a day. He wasn't buying it. Called me for a second look.
I got there and pulled out my H75 Lishi tool. Slid it into the cylinder alongside the broken fragment, worked it free without scratching the wafer surfaces inside. Took maybe two minutes. Once the piece was out I decoded each wafer position right there on the spot, which gave me the exact bitting for a new blade without needing the original.
His Fusion uses the M3N-A2C931426 smart key with a separate emergency insert blade, so I cut a fresh HU101 blade from the decode, slid it into his existing fob housing, and confirmed the smart key still talked to the PATS module through the OBD port. No reprogramming needed since the fob's transponder was never damaged, just the metal blade.
No drilling. No cylinder replacement. His ignition works with the new blade exactly the way it always did. He kept staring at the old broken piece in his hand like he couldn't believe that was the whole job. Saved him a good chunk over what the other guy's plan would have cost.
