2017 Ford Fusion Smart Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional
Up near Serra Cross Park in Ventura, I got a call from a Fusion owner who was parked on one of those narrow streets above Grant Park. He had a working fob, wasn't locked out, but the push-button start had started behaving oddly. Some mornings it fired right up. Other mornings the dash threw a key-not-detected warning and sat there. He'd already ordered a replacement fob online, assuming his original was failing.
I got there and asked him to show me the behavior before I touched anything. He pressed the button. Warning. He pressed again. Started. Classic intermittent contact.
I opened the fob casing on the hood of the car. The battery -- a CR2450 -- looked fine at a glance. But when I checked the contact clips, one of them had a slight outward bow, barely visible, just enough to let the battery rock under vibration. The fob itself was fine. The replacement sitting in the box he'd ordered was unnecessary.
I reset the clip, seated a fresh CR2450 I had on hand, and we spent the next ten minutes pressing the start button repeatedly from different distances and angles. Every time. No warning. Touch unlock on both front handles working. Everything normal.
He still had the unopened replacement fob. I told him to keep it as a spare, which was actually the right call -- having a second key programmed for a 2017 Fusion costs a lot less than an all-keys-lost job later. He hadn't thought about it that way. We got it paired on the spot.
