I got a call from a mechanic shop out near River Park in Ventura. Their customer's 2015 Fusion was sitting in a bay, and another locksmith had already been and gone. Left the owner with a car that wouldn't start and a BCM sitting in a fault state after a voltage drop mid-programming.

When battery voltage sags during a security handshake on these Fusions, the module can lock itself into a fault condition. The car was showing a key-not-detected warning on the dash, the fob wasn't being recognized at the door handles or the start button, and there were stored fault codes from the interrupted session.
First thing I did was clamp my jump pack to the battery to hold a stable voltage. Not glamorous, but skipping that step is exactly what caused the problem the first time. I cleared the fault codes before touching anything key-related. A clean slate matters here. Once the module came back to baseline, I ran the programming sequence with the five-button fob. It paired on the first attempt.
The shop foreman watched the whole thing. I walked him through what happens when voltage drops mid-sequence so his guys could flag it if a customer ever came in with a partially-attempted job again.
The job ran about an hour and a half, longer than a standard new-key call. The dealer alternative was a flatbed, a wait measured in days, and a bill that would have been a lot more than what I charged. The owner got back on the road same day.
