A construction worker called me at 6:45am from a job site in Ventura, over in the College Area. His shift started at 7 and his 2016 Fusion would not wake up. Push the button, nothing. No chime, no dash lights, just a dead start. His foreman was already on site and he could not be late.
I keep my van stocked and rolling by 6. I was at his site in about 25 minutes.
Used my Lishi HU101 to get the door open non-destructively. Inside, the dash was throwing "No Key Detected," which on these second-gen Fusions running the PATS (Passive Anti-Theft System) with the 128-bit transponder usually means the fob is either truly gone or the batteries finally gave out. Both CR2025 cells in his M3N-A2C31243300 were toast. Swapped them, but the PATS module on the BCM (body control module, board ending in -14A075-) had already flagged a communication fault, so a simple battery swap alone was not going to clear it.
Connected through OBD-II, ran the PATS reset, re-registered his fob. Then I programmed a spare 164-R7989 for his glovebox so he would not end up in this spot again. Hands-on time was about 20 minutes.
He clocked in at 7:15. A dealer would have meant a tow, a wait for parts, and a missed day of work. He texted me that night to say thanks.
