1999 Audi TT
Key Replacement - Save vs Dealer in San Diego

1999 Audi TT Remote Flip Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional

The Crosby in Rancho Santa Fe is quiet in the mornings, the kind of neighborhood where you can hear your own footsteps on the pavement. I got a call from a retired surgeon who lived there, older gentleman who used a cane.

His 1999 Audi TT had been sitting in his driveway for two days because the flip key was fighting him every time he tried to turn the ignition. Not totally dead, just stiff and unpredictable, sometimes catching, sometimes not. Getting across town to an Audi dealer was not a realistic option for him that day.

I pulled up to the property that morning. The blade was the problem right away. Years of use had rounded the cuts just enough that the ignition wafers were hesitating on every turn. I decoded the lock using my tools, read each wafer position, and cut a fresh blade to the exact profile the lock wanted. Then I transferred his existing chip carrier into a new flip shell and rebuilt the fob.

He stood in the shade near the garage and watched the whole thing. When I handed it back and he turned it over in his hand, he said it felt like it did when the car was new.

The remote buttons checked out, the chip was communicating with the immobilizer, and the blade turned clean on the first try. Job done in his driveway, no tow, no waiting room, no one else to call.

The dealer had quoted him a price and a timeline that involved sourcing parts and scheduling ahead. He saved a good chunk and never left home.
