2015 Audi TT Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional
A shop over in Eucalyptus Hills in Lakeside called me out on a situation that had already gone sideways before I showed up.
A customer had brought in a 2015 Audi TT after losing both keys. Another tech had attempted to do the all-keys-lost procedure through the OBD port, the process stalled partway through, and the immobilizer stopped responding entirely. The shop's own guy could not get the module to communicate. The car was dead in a bay and the customer was running out of patience.
I got there and confirmed what they were describing. The module read had failed mid-sequence, likely a power interruption or a software mismatch, and the system was in a locked state. Standard OBD communication was not going to work from here.
I pulled the relevant control module and moved to a bench read. That means reading the encrypted memory chip directly, off the car, sending the data to a calculation server, and getting back the information needed to generate fresh keys and restore the immobilizer to a working state. Once I had the file back, I cut a new key blade to the vehicle, registered the transponder, reinstalled the module, and confirmed start.
The car left running that afternoon. The shop told the customer it was done. Nobody mentioned the extra two hours it took to undo the first attempt, and that is fine by me.
The dealer route for something like this would have meant a tow, a module replacement conversation, and a wait. What I charged was a fraction of that path.
