Your 2014 Audi TT uses a Key. On the smart key models, that means a fob housing with 3 buttons on the face, a CR2032 battery inside powering the wireless communication, and an emergency HU66 blade tucked inside for backup entry. The car detects this fob through proximity antennas in the doors and cabin. Without it, the engine will not start.
A graphic designer at her townhouse driveway in La Mesa had a TT with a cracked smart fob. The housing had split at the corner from being dropped on the garage floor and the emergency blade was rattling loose inside. I moved her working electronics into a fresh housing, replaced the weak CR2032 battery, and verified every button plus the comfort access and push-to-start. Her fob, FCC ID , worked exactly like it did before the crack.
She paid $95 for the shell swap and battery. The dealer wanted $200 to replace the entire fob when only the plastic was broken.
