2014 Audi TT
Key Replacement - Save vs Dealer in San Diego

Q: How do I know you are not a scam locksmith?

Scam locksmiths are a genuine problem and Audi owners tend to be targets because the work is known to be expensive. The pattern is always the same: a too-low quote on the phone that multiplies once the tech is standing at your car. There are documented owner reports of quotes that tripled or worse by the time the job was supposedly done.

Q: Will the replacement key work exactly like the original?

Yes. The replacement key is cut to your vehicle and the transponder is programmed to your immobilizer. It starts the car and operates like the key you lost. One thing worth knowing: if you come to us because the car turns over but immediately stalls, or because a key-not-detected type warning is showing up, we diagnose the actual source before we hand you anything new. Sometimes the issue is the key. Sometimes it is the vehicle side.

Q: My 2014 Audi TT starts and immediately stalls. Is that the key's fault?

That pattern, starts then dies within a second or two, points to the immobilizer not completing its handshake with the transponder in the key. It does not always mean the key is dead. The chip inside the key can degrade, or the antenna ring around the ignition cylinder can fail, and either one breaks that communication. I see this on older VAG flip keys where the key looks physically fine but the chip is no longer responding reliably.

Q: I have one working key for my TT. Should I get a spare made now or wait until I need it?

Get the spare now. When you still have a working key, adding a second one is faster and costs less. All-keys-lost on this vehicle requires a PIN extraction step that adds time to the job. Not a huge deal, but it is a longer process and costs more than a simple add-a-key while the original is in hand. One lost or damaged key and you are in the harder, slower scenario.

2014 Audi TT Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional

A shop owner at an import mechanic in La Mesa, right near Casa de Oro, called me mid-morning with a problem that had a clock attached to it.

A customer's 2014 Audi TT was already up on the lift with the wheels pulled. The customer had dropped off one key, that key had slid off the pegboard and gone straight into a floor drain, and the customer was due back in two hours to pick up the car. The shop owner did not want to be the guy who handed back a repaired car with no key.

I got there while the wheels were still off. Read the immobilizer PIN through the OBD port, generated a fresh transponder chip, and cut the blade to match the lock. Programmed it, tested it, engine ran. The whole job was done before the lift came down.

His customer picked up the car on time and never knew anything went sideways. The shop owner told me later the dealer had quoted him multiple days just for a key appointment. He did not need that. Nobody needed that.

Audi TT Mobile Service FAQ

Real costs, no dealer surprises

Are you licensed and insured to work on Audi vehicles?▼

Yes. EZ Car Keyz is a California BSIS licensed locksmith company, license number LCO#6792, and fully insured. Audi key work on this generation involves immobilizer PIN reads, transponder programming, and occasionally diagnosing why a key that looks fine is not being recognized by the vehicle. That takes real equipment and real experience with VAG systems, not just a generic key machine.
