2021 Buick Enclave Smart Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional
I was parked near the transit station in Downtown Santee on a Saturday morning when the call came in. An Enclave owner, his family standing around the SUV in the parking lot, two keys down to zero.
One had gone missing weeks earlier and the other had been through a wash cycle. He'd already tried drying it out in rice, which, for what it's worth, does nothing useful for the electronics inside a proximity fob.
He was looking at a tow to a dealer and a wait measured in days, not hours.
I pulled up, verified his ownership, and got to work at the OBD port. All-keys-lost on this generation of GM proximity smart key has a security timer built into the process. It's not optional and it's not something you can rush. You sit there, and the system does what it does. I've learned to just let it run and not hover over the laptop like watching it helps.
Once the timer cleared, I registered the new fob and verified the emergency blade cut. Then came the part I don't skip: I walked away from the Enclave, well past normal range, and came back at it like a stranger would. Passive door unlock on approach, start detection, every button on the fob including the liftgate release, and three consecutive starts with a full shutdown between each one.
His kids thought the repeated starting and stopping was some kind of ritual. Maybe it is. It's just how you know the job is done and not just mostly done.
He got one working key out of me that morning. He could have waited days at a dealer for the same result.
