2022 Buick Enclave
Key Replacement - Save vs Dealer in San Diego

Q: What is a smart key and how does it actually work on a 2022 Enclave?

The smart key does a few separate things at once. There's a physical emergency blade folded inside the fob that can operate the door lock cylinder manually if needed. There's a transponder chip inside that the vehicle security system reads every time you try to start the engine. And there's the RF remote side that handles lock, unlock, liftgate, and the other buttons wirelessly. All three of those functions have to work together.

Q: What if I need a replacement key after hours or on a weekend?

Call us. We run seven days a week, 6 AM to 11:30 PM, including weekends and most holidays. A Saturday night lockout in the Las Americas Area is a normal call for us, not an exception. No extra fees for evenings or weekends.

Q: I have one key left for my 2022 Enclave. Should I get a spare made now or wait until it fails?

Get the spare now. This comes up constantly on GM owner forums and the answer is always the same after the fact: people wish they had done it before they were stranded. Here's the practical reason. Adding a second key while you still have a working key is a faster, simpler job.

Q: The door handle touch sensors on my Enclave stopped unlocking the car even though the fob works fine otherwise. Is something wrong with the key?

Probably not the fob. If the push-button start still sees the key and the buttons work at normal range, the fob is doing its job. Passive door handle unlock is handled by antennas built into the door handles and the vehicle's body control module, not just the fob itself. A dirty or damaged handle sensor, a wiring issue at the door, or a module that needs attention can all cause this while the fob tests out perfectly fine.

2022 Buick Enclave Smart Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional

I got the call from a parking lot near the Las Americas Area in San Ysidro, right by the medical offices off the main commercial strip. The guy was on crutches, post-surgery, and his 2022 Enclave was just sitting there not acknowledging his fob.

Push-button start wouldn't pick it up. The doors wouldn't respond to the handle sensors. He'd already swapped the battery himself, which was the right instinct, but the problem was deeper than that.

His wife was across town at work. Getting to the dealer wasn't happening, and even if it were, the wait times for a smart key job at a GM dealer aren't quick. He had another appointment in two days and needed the car before then.

I pulled up to the lot, popped my kit, and got into the diagnostics. The fob itself had taken some kind of internal damage, probably from a drop, and wasn't pairing cleanly with the vehicle security system anymore. The fix meant programming a replacement fob and cutting a new emergency blade to match the door and ignition so he'd have a working backup if the electronics ever gave him trouble again.

He waited inside the building the whole time. By the time he came out on his crutches to check in, both the new fob and the blade were tested and working. Every button, both front doors, the liftgate, and the push-button start confirmed. He didn't have to call his wife. He didn't have to arrange a tow. He just drove home.

The dealer quote he'd gotten over the phone was for one key, parts plus labor, and didn't include a spare. He left with two working keys and paid a fraction of that.
