2014 Buick Encore
Key Replacement - Save vs Dealer in San Diego

Q: What is a remote flip key and how does the programming actually work?

A remote flip key has two things going on inside one shell. There is a physical blade that folds into the body of the fob, and there are electronics: a transponder chip that talks to the immobilizer when you turn the ignition, and a remote transmitter that handles lock, unlock, and the other buttons. Those two systems get programmed separately. The transponder has to be enrolled so the vehicle will authorize the engine to start.

Q: What kind of tools do you use for this?

Professional-grade programming equipment and dedicated key cutting machines. The kind of setup that runs into the thousands of dollars and takes real training to use correctly. Same caliber as a dealership service bay, but I bring it to you.

Q: My 2014 Encore starts but the remote buttons stopped working. Do I need a whole new key?

Not necessarily. If the engine starts fine, the transponder side of your key is still talking to the vehicle. What you are describing is a remote signal failure, which is a different problem. First thing to check is the battery. A CR2032 that is low enough to cause weak signal will still let the car start, since the transponder draws very little power. Swap the battery, reseat it firmly, and retest all five buttons.

Q: I lost both keys to my 2014 Encore. Can you still make a replacement?

Yes. All-keys-lost is a standard job. It takes longer than adding a spare because the vehicle has to be put through a full key relearn with no existing working key to assist the process. I come to you in Shadowridge, bring the right blank, cut the blade, and program the new fob through the diagnostic port. The old lost keys get wiped from the system so they cannot be used to start the car.

2014 Buick Encore Remote Flip Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional

I was already working in Vista on a Friday evening, van stocked, when the call came in from Shadowridge.

A couple had walked out of a wine bar to find their 2014 Buick Encore sitting there completely unresponsive. The fob had been acting sluggish for a few days, they said, but it chose that particular Friday to give out entirely. They had no idea there was a way to get into the car without the fob working normally, and they definitely did not know how to get the engine started without a responding key. They were standing in the parking lot trying to figure out if they needed a tow.

I was about fifteen minutes out. When I pulled up, I could see them both leaning against the car looking at the fob like they were waiting for it to explain itself.

The blade was worn but cuttable. The battery was completely flat. I swapped the CR2032, reseated the contact, and ran the programming sequence to pair the fob back to the vehicle. Then I went button by button, all five of them, standing right there in the lot. Everything came back clean.

They were on the road before the bar closed. The dealer would have meant a Monday appointment at best, and a tow if they could not get the car home first. Neither of those things happened.

Buick Encore Mobile Service FAQ

Real costs, no dealer surprises

How many buttons does the 2014 Buick Encore key fob have?▼

Five. Lock, unlock, remote start, trunk release, and panic. When I program a replacement fob for this vehicle, I run a live check on every single button before I call the job done. A fob can register as paired in the software and still have one button that is not transmitting correctly. The full function test is not optional.
