Out in Peutz Valley on a Saturday, a guy had his catering supplies loaded in the back of his 2015 Buick Encore and was set up at the Alpine farmers market. His key fob stopped responding, the car would not unlock, and his inventory was sitting there in the heat.

I was about 20 minutes out. When I got there, he had already swapped the CR2032 thinking that was it. Battery was fine. The issue traced back to an event earlier that week when his car battery had gone flat. When the vehicle battery died, it knocked the fob out of registration with the body control module. The key was physically intact and the blade was fine. It just needed to be re-enrolled.
I connected to the OBD port, ran the security access sequence, and re-registered his existing fob. Then I programmed a second key so he would have a backup going forward. Both keys tested clean across all five buttons and the flip blade started the car without hesitation.
From his phone call to him driving away was under an hour. The dealer called him back Monday morning and wanted the car for two days. His food was fine and his Saturday market happened.
