There's a record swap that sets up near Bressi Ranch every few weeks, and I got a call from the parking lot one Saturday afternoon. Guy had a 2022 Buick Encore, one key, and the fob had stopped responding. Doors wouldn't unlock from outside, start button was giving him a key-not-detected warning, and he'd already bought a CR2032 at the drugstore down the street and swapped it himself. Still nothing.

I straightened the clip, reseated the battery, and the fob woke right up. Range came back, touch unlock came back, the dash stopped complaining.
He didn't need a new fob at all. I still walked every button and confirmed the start sequence was reading correctly before I packed up. When the car actually misbehaves versus when a contact is just loose, you want to know the difference before you leave a job.
He mentioned the dealer quote on the way out, more as a joke than a complaint. I didn't need to say anything.
