2018 Buick Encore Smart Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional
I was already working the Naval Base Area side of Coronado when the call came in. A parent at a school pickup lot nearby, 2018 Buick Encore, smart key completely unresponsive. Car wouldn't acknowledge the fob at all. No response at the door handle, no start.
She had already tried a new battery the night before. Still nothing. She had called the dealer that morning and was told to schedule an appointment, then wait on the fob to be ordered and confirmed in stock before they could even book the programming slot. That's a multi-day process for something that needed to happen the same afternoon.
I pulled up, confirmed the fob itself wasn't the issue, and connected to the OBD port. The vehicle security system had dropped the fob from its memory. Happens. A new fob, registered through the diagnostic procedure, and the car was recognizing it within about twenty minutes. I walked every button, checked the door handle response on both sides, and had her do a full test cycle herself before I closed up.
She left with a working key, kid in the backseat, well inside an hour from when she called. The dealer timeline would have cost her two days of figuring out rides and pickups. That part she mentioned on her own. I just did the job.
