2020 Cadillac XT4 Smart Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional
I got a call from a parent at a pickup area off De Luz Road in Fallbrook, near one of the smaller private programs out that way. She had maybe 40 minutes before after-school care closed and her XT4 fob had gone completely unresponsive. She'd already tried pressing it from different angles, which is the universal human response to a dead fob.
The fob battery was still registering voltage on a quick test, so I didn't jump straight to a swap. The battery contacts inside had a faint film of oxidation, the kind you get from a fob that lives at the bottom of a bag. Cleaned the contacts, seated a fresh CR2032 correctly, and did a full function check: door locks, liftgate release, remote start absence noted, and proximity start. The dash stopped complaining.
She didn't need a new fob programmed. She didn't need a dealer visit. She definitely didn't need to wait until the end of the week, which is what the dealer had told her when she called from the parking lot. Whatever they quoted her was irrelevant at that point. What mattered was that she walked out with a working key in about 20 minutes and made it to pickup with time to spare.
The De Luz area is a good 20 minutes from the nearest Cadillac dealer. For something that turned out to be a contact issue, that drive would have cost her the whole afternoon.
