2021 Cadillac XT4 Smart Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional

I got a call from someone over in Bear Valley, Escondido. She had a 2021 XT4 and her fob had been acting up for about a week, then stopped working entirely that morning. She'd already put a fresh CR2032 in. Still nothing at the door handles. Car wouldn't acknowledge her walking up.

When I pulled up, she handed me the fob and I checked the battery contact points first. Clean install, correct battery. I walked the exterior with my tester and the door handle antennas were reading inconsistently on the driver side. The fob itself was fine.

That's the part of this job I take seriously. It would have been easy to say "bad fob, here's a new one" and close the ticket. But the original fob was working. The issue was the antenna circuit on that door, probably a loose connector behind the handle.

I showed her exactly what I found, walked her through the difference between a fob failure and a vehicle-side antenna issue, and confirmed the fob was registering fine through the center console backup point. She ended up not needing a new key at all that visit, just a diagnosis that pointed her in the right direction.

When a job does require a full replacement, the process on this car involves connecting to the OBD port, reading the security data from the body control module, and registering the new fob through the security sequence. I cut the emergency blade to match the vehicle, test every button, and do multiple start cycles before I close out. Testing isn't an add-on. It's part of the job.

What she said afterward stuck with me: she expected me to sell her something. She didn't expect me to tell her she didn't need it.
