2015 Cadillac XTS Smart Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional
I got a call from a guy parked near Third Avenue Village in Chula Vista. He was in his 2015 Cadillac XTS and the key blade had gotten stiff.
Not emergency-stiff, but the kind of stiff where you know you are one bad morning away from snapping it off in the cylinder. He could feel it catching every time he turned it. He was already treating it like it might break.
Another locksmith had quoted him a full ignition cylinder swap over the phone. That is the nuclear option, and it was not the right call here.
I decoded the door cylinder, which still had clean wafer surfaces to read from. That gave me the exact cut depths I needed without touching the ignition at all. Cut a fresh blade to those specs, programmed the new smart key through the OBD port, and verified every function on the fob before I packed up.
The original ignition cylinder works fine. A properly cut replacement blade is all it ever needed. He saved a significant amount compared to that other quote, and nothing on the car was drilled, pulled, or replaced that did not need to be.
He mentioned he had been putting it off for weeks because he assumed it would be expensive and invasive. That part I hear a lot.
