2019 Cadillac XTS
Key Replacement - Save vs Dealer in San Diego

Q: How fast can you get to Cardiff-by-the-Sea or somewhere else in Encinitas?

I give you an honest arrival window when you call. Because I am already mobile and working the area, I can usually get there faster than waiting on a roadside assistance dispatch. Cadillac's roadside program routes through a third-party network, and owners report getting stuck on hold or having dispatches fall through entirely. Call me directly and you will know exactly when I am coming.

Q: Can I get a replacement key made today?

Usually yes. I carry smart key fobs, cutting equipment, and programming tools for the XTS in my service van. If I have your fob in stock and the schedule lines up, I can come to you in Encinitas or Cardiff-by-the-Sea, cut the replacement key blade, program the fob to your vehicle, and have you tested and driving the same day you call.

Q: My XTS fob programs fine but my driver memory settings keep resetting. Is that a key problem?

It can be. The XTS stores personalized driver settings linked to specific fob identities in the vehicle. When a fob is replaced or re-enrolled, the vehicle may reassign or clear those profiles depending on how the programming was done. If your seat position, mirror memory, or display preferences are behaving strangely after a key replacement, the fob-to-driver-profile pairing may need to be reconfigured through the vehicle settings menu.

Q: I bought a replacement fob online. Can I just program it myself?

No. The 2019 XTS smart key system does not have a self-programming sequence you can run from the driver's seat. There is no ignition-cycle trick or button combination that will enroll a new fob. Professional diagnostic equipment connected to the vehicle is required. If you already bought the fob, that is fine. Bring it to me or have me come to you and I can program the one you have, assuming it is the correct fob for this vehicle.

2019 Cadillac XTS Smart Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional

He called me from the parking structure after landing from a business trip. His 2019 Cadillac XTS was sitting exactly where the valet left it and it would not respond to anything.

The fob was completely dead. He had tried the backup start method, holding the fob up to the start area, and the car was not reading it. His luggage was locked in the trunk. The dealer told him Thursday was the earliest they could take a look. It was Tuesday afternoon.

I drove out to meet him. Got there in under 40 minutes.

First thing I did was swap the CR2032 and clean the battery contacts inside the fob shell. Then I used my diagnostic tool to check whether his fobs were still enrolled in the vehicle. They were. The system had logged a communication fault from the dead battery event, which was why the backup start was not picking up even with a fresh cell. Cleared the fault, tested both fobs through every function including the trunk release, and watched the driver profile settings snap back to his preferences.

He drove home that afternoon. He mentioned what the dealer had quoted for the same job, plus two days and a tow. I just let that sit there without saying much. The number kind of spoke for itself.

Cadillac XTS Mobile Service FAQ

Real costs, no dealer surprises

How long does a 2019 Cadillac XTS key replacement take?▼

Plan on 30 to 45 minutes from when I arrive. The XTS smart key system requires diagnostic equipment to register a new fob to the vehicle, and there is a theft deterrent relearn sequence built into that process that has a timed cycle you cannot rush.
