I was called out to a transmission shop off the main corridor in Eastlake, Chula Vista. A guy had brought his 2005 Chrysler 300 in for unrelated work, and while it was sitting there, another locksmith had tried to replace his key. The shop's battery was already a little soft. Mid-programming, the voltage dropped, and the immobilizer module went into a fault state. The other tech couldn't recover it and told the shop the car needed to go to the dealer. Then they called me.
The 300 was sitting in the bay, no key that worked, a couple of fault codes stored, and a shop owner watching to see if I was going to pack up too.
First thing I did was put my jump pack on the battery. Not optional at that point -- stable voltage is the whole game when you're about to talk to the security system. Once I had clean power, I went in through the OBD port and cleared the fault codes the interrupted session had left behind. The module wasn't truly locked, it was just stuck in an incomplete state. After clearing it and waiting out the reset, I ran a fresh programming sequence from scratch with the correct replacement fob for that vehicle.
First clean attempt, it took. The key started the car, remote functions worked, and I walked the whole thing -- lock, unlock, trunk, panic -- before I called it done.
The shop guys had assumed they were looking at a flatbed, a multi-day dealer wait, and a bill that would have been painful. I was there and done in about an hour and a half. The extra time was all in the recovery step, not the programming itself. I carry backup power and a second approach specifically because interrupted jobs like this one are recoverable if you know what you're doing.
