I got a call out to a shopping center in El Cajon, over near Rancho El Cajon, from a guy who was convinced his 2020 Chrysler 300 had some kind of electrical gremlin. I programmed a new fob using the correct transponder chip matched to this specific year and platform, ran the full registration through the diagnostic port, and then did something the first locksmith apparently skipped: I verified the fob communication after a simulated drive cycle, not just at the moment of programming. I also swapped his CR2032, which was already reading low.
He texted me three days later to say it was still working. That is the whole story. The difference between a key that works for a week and one that just works is knowing exactly what goes inside it.
