2019 Chrysler 300
Key Replacement - Save vs Dealer in San Diego

Q: Do I need to tow my 2019 Chrysler 300 to the dealer if I have no working key?

Not if you go the mobile route. A locksmith with the right diagnostic equipment can do all-keys-lost programming at your location, whether that is your driveway, a parking lot, or a storage facility. Dealers will tell you the car needs to come in, and for their setup that is true -- their software requires a physical connection in the service bay. But mobile tools access the same diagnostic port. The vehicle does not need to move.

Q: How long does an all-keys-lost replacement take on a 2019 Chrysler 300?

On site, about 30 to 45 minutes from the time I connect. The PIN read, key erase, and new fob registration each take a few minutes, and there is a short timed sequence built into the process. Add in physical testing -- every button, a few remote starts, range check -- and you are looking at under an hour in most cases. The dealer timeline is a different story entirely.

Q: My 2019 Chrysler 300 fob works fine some days and fails others. What causes that?

Intermittent behavior on these fobs usually comes down to one of three things: a CR2032 that is reading borderline on voltage, a contact inside the fob housing that shifted after a drop, or radio frequency interference near where you are standing when it acts up. Storage facilities and parking structures with dense concrete can kill range on any fob. Start with the battery even if the fob is not fully dead.

Q: Can I just buy a fob online and have it programmed, or does it have to be a dealer part?

An aftermarket or used fob that matches the correct button count and receiver frequency can be programmed to your 2019 Chrysler 300 -- it does not have to come from a dealer. What it cannot do is program itself. Any fob, dealer-sourced or otherwise, needs to be enrolled to the vehicle through diagnostic equipment before it will operate the locks or communicate with the immobilizer. If you already bought one online, that is fine.

2019 Chrysler 300 Smart Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional

There is a self-storage complex out near the Grossmont Area where a lot of snowbirds keep vehicles parked for months at a stretch. A guy found me through YouTube before he ever had a problem -- watched a Chrysler fob replacement video, saw the whole process unfold on camera, and saved the number.

When his 2019 Chrysler 300 started acting up after sitting in storage through the warmer months, he already knew what was coming. The fob range had dropped off first. Then the car started throwing a key-not-detected warning on startup. By the time he called, it was intermittent enough that he was never sure if it was going to cooperate.

I pulled into the lot, popped the fob, and the CR2032 was reading low. Swapped it first before assuming anything worse. Range came back partially, but the immobilizer enrollment was still giving him grief on cold starts. The stored key data needed to be refreshed, which meant connecting to the vehicle and re-registering the fob through the diagnostic port.

Did the whole job on site. Tested every button. Ran three cold starts from across the lot to check range against the gate. Everything clean.

He mentioned two dealers had quoted him a wait time measured in weeks because of parts scheduling. We were done in one visit, parked right where the car already sat.

Chrysler 300 Mobile Service FAQ

Real costs, no dealer surprises

I lost all my keys to my 2019 Chrysler 300. Can you still make a new one?▼

Yes, and all-keys-lost is one of the more common calls on late-model Chrysler vehicles. The job involves pulling the security PIN from the vehicle's onboard modules, wiping all previously stored key data, and programming fresh fobs from scratch. On a 2019, that process requires professional diagnostic equipment -- there is no workaround that skips the module communication step. The reason some owners end up waiting weeks at a dealer is parts ordering and scheduling backlogs, not the programming itself.
