Cardiff-by-the-Sea is one of those neighborhoods where I'll get a call, pull up to a house a block from the water, and the job turns out to be anything but simple.
A woman called about her 2021 Chrysler 300. The fob had gotten wet, dried out, and now the push-button start was hit or miss. Sometimes it worked fine. Sometimes she'd sit there pressing the button while the dash gave her a key-not-detected warning and nothing else.

The testing is where I earn the job. Not just a test start. I walked the perimeter of that 300, checked every button on both fobs from distance, confirmed the door lock and unlock on all sides, and did three clean ignition cycles back to back. If something intermittent is going to show up, it usually shows up in that third cycle.
Both fobs worked clean. She asked what the dealer would have told her to do with that still-sealed fob she'd ordered online.
Probably nothing helpful, I said. And it would have taken a week to find out.
