I got a call from a woman in Downtown Santee, a choir director parked at her church lot on a Sunday morning, which is about the worst time to be stranded with a key that won't work.
She'd already been burned. Another locksmith had come out, charged her full price, and left her with a key that cranked the engine and immediately killed it after two seconds. That two-second stall is not a module problem. It is a failed immobilizer learn. When it was done I tested the start twice, walked every button on her remote head key, and showed her the confirmation on my screen so she wasn't just taking my word for it.
Her key had been physically cut correctly. That was the one thing the first locksmith got right. The cut wasn't the problem. The programming was.
She paid me a fraction of what the dealer would have quoted for the same job. I couldn't get her money back from the first guy, and I told her that. But she left with a key that actually worked, which is what she should have had the first time.
