2020 Genesis G80
Key Replacement - Save vs Dealer in San Diego

Q: Do I need to know the FCC ID on my fob to get a replacement?

No. Your year, make, and model is enough for us to identify the correct fob for your vehicle. The factory FCC ID is printed on the back of your existing fob if you have it, but if the key is lost that's not a problem. We look it up from the vehicle side, not the key side.

Q: I lost all my keys to my 2020 Genesis G80. Can you still make one?

Yes, and it's one of the more common calls I get on these vehicles. All-keys-lost on a 2020 G80 smart key system means going through the OBD port with diagnostic equipment to reset the key memory and enroll a fresh fob from scratch. There's no ignition-turn sequence or button trick for this. It takes professional tools. The process runs about 45 to 60 minutes on site.

Q: Can I buy a fob online and have you program it, or does the fob have to come from you?

This comes up a lot. The short answer: it depends on the fob, and the risk is yours if it's the wrong one. The 2020 G80 smart key system is particular about which fobs it will accept. If the fob you bought online matches the correct specification for your vehicle, I can enroll it. But a lot of aftermarket fobs sold online are close-but-not-right, and the system rejects them during programming.

Q: The car starts fine but the door handle touch unlock stopped working on one side. Is my fob failing?

Probably not the fob. If the car sees the key and starts without issue, the fob is communicating fine. Isolated handle failures on one door typically point to the handle sensor or that door's wiring rather than the key system itself. Clean the handle area and retest. If it stays isolated to one side, that's a door-level diagnosis, not a key replacement job.

2020 Genesis G80 Smart Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional

Out in Sweetwater, in National City, I got a call from a guy who already knew my work. Personal trainer, parked in a parking structure, staring at his 2020 Genesis G80 like it had personally let him down.

He'd watched one of my videos on a Hyundai smart key job and figured the Genesis process would track close enough that he knew what he was getting into. That part was right.

His fob had been acting up for about two weeks. Intermittent key-not-detected warning, some days fine, other days the car just sat there pretending it couldn't see the key at all. He'd already swapped the battery himself, which was the right move. It helped for a few days and then the behavior came back.

When I got there, I tested the existing fob first. Range was weak, and the door handle response was inconsistent on the driver side. The fob itself had taken some wear, and after running diagnostics through the OBD port, it was clear the original was degrading rather than just running a low battery.

I built a fresh fob on site and enrolled it through the system with my diagnostic equipment. Re-registered everything in the same session so no existing fob got dropped from memory. Tested every button, did three clean starts, walked the parking structure to confirm range at distance. Driver-side handle response came back clean.

He saved a good chunk compared to what the dealer had quoted him. And the same person from the videos showed up to his car. No dispatcher, no mystery tech.

Genesis G80 Mobile Service FAQ

Real costs, no dealer surprises

What battery does the 2020 Genesis G80 key fob use?▼

CR2032. Standard size, easy to find. When the battery gets low on this fob, it doesn't always die all at once. You might see reduced range, a slow door handle response, or a key-not-detected warning that comes and goes before it fully quits. If your fob is acting inconsistent, swap the CR2032 before assuming you need a replacement. On any new key we make, a fresh battery comes included.
