2022 Genesis G80 Smart Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional
Out in Lakeside Proper, a law student called me in a genuinely bad spot. He'd already paid another locksmith to program a replacement smart key to his 2022 Genesis G80. That tech got partway through, ran into an error, and walked away. He charged for the attempt and told the student to go to the dealer.
The car wouldn't recognize any key at all after that. Not the new one, not the original.
He found me through my reviews and was upfront on the phone: he was nervous about paying again and getting the same result. I told him I'd look at what the previous attempt left behind before I made any promises, but that I'd tell him exactly what I found.
When I pulled up and plugged into the OBD port, the problem was right there. The vehicle security system was sitting in a confused state with fault codes stacked from the incomplete sequence. The previous tech had run a procedure that didn't match the 2022 model year, and the module had locked itself up trying to process it.
I cleared the faults, confirmed the module came back to a clean baseline, and ran the proper smart key learning sequence from scratch. Both fobs registered. The G80 started clean on the first try.
He didn't ask about the dealer price. He just said he wished he'd called me first. I told him it happens more than it should.
