2023 Genesis G80
Key Replacement - Save vs Dealer in San Diego

2023 Genesis G80 Smart Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional

I was out in the Grossmont Area on a Tuesday when I got the call. Retired gentleman, daily-driving a 2023 G80, wanted a spare key made before he left on a trip later that week. Reasonable request. But he had a question before I even opened my bag.

He wanted to know what happens if the fob I program stops working next month. Not an unreasonable thing to ask. He'd had a bad experience somewhere before, he said, and left it at that.

I told him what I tell every customer. I warrant the chip, the programming, and the cut. If something fails on my end within my warranty period, I come back to wherever the car is and fix it. No fine print. No service ticket. Me, the tools, and the fob.

Then I got to work. I decoded the lock on site, cut a fresh emergency blade to match, and programmed the fob through the OBD port using the factory-supported PIN procedure. The G80 requires diagnostic equipment for this, no ignition-turn shortcut exists on a system this current. Once the fob was registered, I walked through every function: lock, unlock, the trunk release, remote operation, and start. Then I set a timer and tested it again five minutes later, because intermittent issues sometimes only show up after the fob sits idle for a bit.

Everything held. He seemed less concerned about the trip after that.

The dealer quote he'd gotten was notably higher. He mentioned it almost as an afterthought, like he'd already moved on.
