2005 Honda Insight Metal Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional
A retired gentleman out near Rancho Santa Fe Village called me about his 2005 Insight. He had one working key left and wanted a spare before something happened to it. He had already called the dealer and gotten a quote that surprised him, mostly because he assumed a key this simple would cost almost nothing.
He told me on the phone he had heard there was "computer stuff" involved with Honda keys and figured the dealer was his only option. I asked him a few questions and confirmed what I already suspected about this vehicle. I told him to expect me in about twenty minutes.
When I got there, the Insight was sitting in his driveway looking exactly like what it is: a small, no-frills two-seater from a time when Honda was experimenting with something different. The key situation matched the car. I decoded the existing key, cut a replacement blade, and tested it in the door and the ignition.
He watched the whole thing and kept waiting for the part where I plugged something into the car. There was no such part. When I handed him the finished key, he just turned it over in his hand a couple of times. He said he felt like he had been bracing for something complicated and it never arrived.
He saved a good chunk compared to what the dealer had quoted, and he did not have to leave Rancho Santa Fe to do it.
