2006 Hyundai Azera
Key Replacement - Save vs Dealer in San Diego

Q: How do I know you're not one of those scam locksmiths I keep reading about?

That's a fair question and the concern is real. The pattern with scam operations is always the same: a suspiciously low number over the phone, then a much larger number once they're standing next to your car. Some owners in key emergencies have been hit with charges several times what was quoted, with no written estimate and no itemized explanation. EZ Car Keyz gives you a firm price before I roll out.

Q: Will the replacement key work exactly like my original?

Yes. On the 2006 Azera, a proper replacement means a key blade cut to your specific vehicle and a transponder chip that's enrolled to your immobilizer. Both have to be done right. I've seen keys come back from other shops where the blade fit the ignition but the chip was the wrong type or was never programmed, so the engine would crank and stall. I've also seen blades that were slightly off-depth, binding in the cylinder.

Q: My 2006 Azera cranks but immediately stalls. Is that a key or an engine problem?

On a mid-2000s Hyundai with a transponder key, crank-and-stall with no other obvious engine symptoms usually points directly to the immobilizer not recognizing the chip. The engine management system gets the signal to start, fires briefly, then shuts back down because the security side didn't authorize it. This shows up most often when someone had a key cut at a hardware store or a non-specialist shop that used a plain blade blank without the correct transponder chip inside.

Q: I need a second key made for my 2006 Azera. Can I just get the blade copied somewhere cheap and skip the chip programming?

You can get the blade copied, but it won't start the car. The 2006 Azera's immobilizer won't authorize the engine without a recognized chip in the key. A blade-only copy will turn the ignition and get you nowhere. The chip programming is the part that actually matters for starting the vehicle, and that requires the right diagnostic equipment. Get both done at the same time by someone equipped for it.

2006 Hyundai Azera Transponder Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional

I got a call out to the Seacoast neighborhood in Imperial Beach on a Tuesday evening. Woman's 2006 Azera, sitting in a lot near the pediatrician's office. She had a sick toddler in the back seat, it was past 6 pm, and the Hyundai dealer was already closed for the night.

She'd had a spare key cut at a hardware store a few months back. That day it stopped working. The car would crank but immediately die, every single time. She wasn't locked out. The blade fit fine. The engine just refused to stay running.

That's a classic sign the transponder in the key isn't being read by the immobilizer. The hardware-store copy was a good mechanical cut, but whoever made it used a plain blank with no working chip inside. It probably worked intermittently for a while and then stopped registering altogether.

I pulled up to the lot, confirmed the blade was turning freely, then connected my programmer to the OBD port. Read the immobilizer, confirmed the chip in her existing key was not being recognized, and got a new properly chipped key cut and programmed to the car. Tested it: started right up, held idle, no stalling.

She was back on the road in under 45 minutes. The dealer route would have meant a tow, a morning appointment, and a wait. That part she barely mentioned. She just wanted to get the kid home.

Hyundai Azera Mobile Service FAQ

Real costs, no dealer surprises

Are you licensed and insured to do this work on a 2006 Hyundai Azera?▼

Yes. EZ Car Keyz holds a California BSIS locksmith company license (LCO#6792), and we carry full insurance. The 2006 Azera uses a chipped transponder key, which means the job involves both cutting the key blade and programming the transponder to communicate with the vehicle's immobilizer. That requires the right equipment and up-to-date software, not just a key machine. We've done this work on plenty of mid-2000s Hyundai vehicles.
