2015 Hyundai Azera Smart Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional
There is a body shop near the Encanto Border side of Lemon Grove that does decent fender and bumper work. A customer had brought his 2015 Azera in after a minor collision. Somewhere in the process, a key was needed, and the shop called a locksmith before they called me.
That locksmith attempted the smart key programming, hit an error mid-sequence, and left. The car was now sitting in the shop bay with a fob that would not register and an immobilizer that had locked itself after the failed attempt. The shop told the owner the module was probably bad and he might need a dealer replacement. The owner looked up the dealer wait time and called me instead.
When I got there, OBD communication to the immobilizer was blocked. The previous attempt had interrupted the sequence at the wrong point and the module was in a fault state, rejecting everything. Standard tool, no path forward.
I pulled the module and moved to bench work. Reading the data directly off the chip bypasses the communication block and lets you see exactly what state the module is in. I cleared the fault, rebuilt the key registration data, and reseated the module. Back to the car, clean OBD connection, and the new fob registered on the first attempt.
The whole job ran about 80 minutes, most of that being the module pull and bench read. The owner had expected a flatbed, a multi-day dealer queue, and a parts-and-labor bill that was not going to be small. He got his car back that afternoon. The body shop called me the next time they had a key situation.
