2007 Hyundai Azera
Key Replacement - Save vs Dealer in San Diego

2007 Hyundai Azera Transponder Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional

A guy in Casa de Oro called me on a Tuesday afternoon. He had his only key to a 2007 Hyundai Azera and the car would crank but not start.

Engine would turn over, fire for half a second, then die. He had already replaced the battery in... nothing, because this is a transponder key. There is no battery to replace. That detail alone told me what I was walking into.

He had been assuming it was a fuel or ignition problem and had wasted two days going down that road. I asked him one question: does it crank but immediately stall? That pointed straight at the immobilizer not recognizing the transponder. He said yes, every single time.

When I got to him I looked at the key first. The plastic head had a hairline crack running right through the middle, barely visible unless you held it at an angle in the light. The transponder inside had shifted. The antenna ring around the ignition was reading intermittent or nothing at all, depending on which way the key was inserted.

I decoded the blade at the door, cut a new key, transferred the programming through OBD, and verified the transponder read before he ever put it in the ignition. First turn, it started and stayed running.

He mentioned he had been quoted a multi-day wait at the dealership just for the diagnostic, before they even got to the key itself. I was done in about forty minutes from the time I parked in front of his house. That kind of turnaround matters when you are sitting in your driveway with nowhere to be.
