I was already working a call near the waterfront in Downtown IB on a Saturday night when a second call came in. A couple had been at one of the spots along Palm Avenue, came out to the car, and the fob was doing nothing. No lock response, no unlock, and the start button just sat there. The fob housing on this generation Azera can look fine from the outside while the battery contact inside has a slight corrosion bloom or a weak seat on the CR2032. I popped it open on the hood. The battery itself looked okay at a glance, but the positive contact had just enough oxidation to kill the transmission under load. Cleaned the contacts, seated a fresh CR2032 with the right orientation and firm clip pressure, and the car recognized the fob before I even got to the start button test.
I walked through every function anyway. Lock, unlock, the trunk release, and the start button response from a normal standing distance. Everything came back clean.
They did not need a new fob. They did not need a reprogram. They needed someone who stocks the right battery, knows where the weak points are on this specific key, and shows up on a Saturday night instead of telling them to call the dealer Monday morning. The dealer quote they had looked up while waiting was a number neither of them wanted to think about on a weekend. What they paid me was a fraction of that.
