2014 Jaguar F-Type Smart Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional
I got a call late on a weeknight from someone near the CSUSM Area. She works overnight shifts at a medical facility and parks in a structure that is not well lit. She needed a spare key made for her 2014 Jaguar F-Type, and before she even told me the vehicle, she asked me to confirm my license number.
That is not a strange request. That is a smart one. She told me she'd already looked up what California requires for a licensed locksmith and wanted to know she wasn't handing over her Jaguar to someone running a cash operation out of an unmarked car. I gave her my BSIS license number right there on the phone. Told her she could pull it up on the state website before I arrived.
When I got there she was standing outside the structure, not waiting in the dark by the car. She watched me pull up in the van, checked the company name against what she'd searched, and then walked me over.
The F-Type smart key system routes through the vehicle's body electronics for key enrollment. This is not a job where you plug in a generic tool and hit go. I used my JLR-capable diagnostic equipment to access the key management function, verified the existing key was registered, and enrolled the new five-button fob to the vehicle. The factory part number on the new fob matched what the car expected.
The whole job was done in the structure, no tow, no waiting room, no appointment booked two weeks out. She had a working spare before her next shift started. She mentioned what the dealer had quoted her. I did it for a fraction of that. She said she appreciated having the license number to look up before I showed up.
That part I hear a lot. People doing this work without a license aren't hard to find. But when it's a late night and a vehicle like this one, it matters who shows up.
