Near the Santee Lakes area on a Sunday morning, I got a call from a guy who opened with "I already paid someone." That's never a great start.

I ran a start cycle and let it idle while I walked the doors, checked the handle sensors, and let the engine sit for a few minutes to confirm no cutoff.
He watched the whole thing from the curb with his coffee going cold. When it idled past the two-second mark, he didn't say anything. Just nodded slowly like he'd been waiting to believe it.
The dealer had already quoted him more than he wanted to think about, plus towing. He ended up paying twice for the locksmith side, which I couldn't fix, but at least the second payment got him a car that ran.
