A lot more, and on late-model Jaguars the gap is bigger than most people expect. When you have a working key, adding a spare is a relatively contained job. Probably not the fob. If the vehicle is starting normally and the dash isn't showing a key warning, the fob is communicating fine. Touch unlock on the door handle is handled by a separate antenna and sensor in that door. When it drops on one door but not the other, that points to the handle sensor, the wiring to that door, or a calibration issue on that specific handle, not the fob itself. Wipe the handle clean and retest.

Q: My F-Type is showing a key-not-detected warning but I haven't lost the key. What should I check first?

Start with the CR2032 battery in the fob. This is the most common cause of that warning on these cars and it gets overlooked constantly because the battery can measure acceptable voltage under no load but still drop out under the current draw of the smart key system. A fob that seems to work sometimes and fails other times is a classic sign of a battery at the edge.

2020 Jaguar F-Type Smart Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional

I got a call from a woman in Richland on a Tuesday morning. She was parked near her home after getting back from a weekend trip and had been dealing with a dead smart fob the whole drive back.

Then I decoded the lock mechanically and cut a fresh blade to match. The fob went into a new housing with a fresh battery, blade seated correctly, and the whole unit programmed back through the diagnostic port to confirm it was properly paired to the vehicle.

She tested every function while I was still there. Touch unlock on both doors, all five buttons, start. Everything came back.

No drilling. No cylinder replacement. The lock looks exactly the way it did before. She mentioned the first locksmith's number again at the end, almost like she still couldn't believe the difference. I just told her destructive entry on a Jaguar should be the absolute last option, not the first call.
