If both batteries are solid and the warning persists, the key itself may have lost its programming, or there's something going on at the vehicle's receiver or immobilizer module. So the short version: if you already have a working key and just want to add a spare remote, the self-sync may get the buttons working. If you need a fully functional spare that also starts the car, you need someone with the right programmer to handle the transponder.
