When a 2012 Kia Forte key is done wrong, it doesn't "kind of work." It fails. The remote might lock and unlock perfectly while the dash still says "key not detected" and refuses to start. Or push-to-start works for a few days then randomly stops detecting the fob after deeper security verification kicks in.
A warehouse stocker at the big box store lot in Vista had a key from another locksmith for his Forte that stopped working after about ten days. It would start in the morning, then by evening push-to-start would flash "key not detected." He thought the car had an electrical problem, but it didn't.

I used my VVDI2 to read what chip was in his bad key, confirmed it was wrong, and programmed a new key with the correct chip. His fob, FCC ID SY5HMFNA04, also had a weak CR2032 battery making detection worse.
The replacement has been working for months and cost him $242. Dealer would have charged $431. The difference is the chip inside.
