2017 Kia Forte
Key Replacement - Save vs Dealer in San Diego

2017 Kia Forte Smart Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional

I got a call from a laundromat parking lot off in the Richland area of San Marcos. It was past 10pm. The guy on the phone was a night janitor. His only key to his 2017 Forte was gone. He had no idea where it went, he didn't have his registration on him, and he was already pricing tow trucks on his phone while we were talking.

I slowed him down. Told him to walk to the driver's side of the car and look through the windshield at the base of the glass. He found the VIN in about thirty seconds. Turns out his insurance app had his registration right there in the documents tab. He didn't need to find a piece of paper.

That VIN told me everything I needed before I even left. I knew the key type, prepped the right fob shell and battery, and had the equipment loaded when I pulled out of my driveway. When I got to him, he was sitting on the curb next to his car under a parking lot light, looking a lot calmer than the guy who called me.

All-keys-lost on the 2017 Forte means going in through the OBD port, clearing the existing key memory, and enrolling the new fob fresh. The old key, wherever it ended up, is now dead to that car. I built the fob on the hood of his Forte, ran the procedure, and tested every button and both door handles before I called it done.

He drove home. The VIN was the thing that made it fast. It is also the single most useful piece of information you can give me when you call.
