2018 Kia Forte Smart Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional
She was sitting at a patio in North Park when her purse went. Someone lifted it off the back of her chair. Keys, wallet, phone. She borrowed a stranger's phone to call the police, then her daughter, then me.
Her 2018 Kia Forte was sitting in the lot, locked, with no keys in existence. Her daughter had already called the Kia dealer. The quote was 3 to 5 business days, tow the car in, and they recommended a full key memory wipe because the stolen fob still had the ability to start the car. The estimate was over $700 when you stacked everything up.
I got there that evening. A theft situation like this isn't just a key replacement. It's an all-keys-lost job with a security layer on top of it. I connected through the diagnostic port, wiped the entire key memory so the stolen fob is electronically dead to that vehicle, and programmed two new fobs from scratch. Both proximity functions, both emergency blades, all four buttons on each. Tested every door handle, tested start, walked her through the new keys before I left.
She drove home that night. The dealer wanted multiple days and a tow. She was back on the road in a couple of hours, for a fraction of what they wanted.
One thing I made clear before I left: the stolen fob can still physically insert into a door lock if it has a blade, but the immobilizer won't allow it to start the car. That seemed to matter to her more than anything else I said.
