2006 Land Rover Range Rover Sport Remote Flip Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional
A call came in from Bressi Ranch, one of those newer planned neighborhoods in Carlsbad where the driveways are tight and the HOA notices are faster than the mail. A guy had a 2006 Range Rover Sport sitting in front of his house and a flip key that had given up on the remote side. The blade still worked, still started the car, but the lock and unlock buttons had been dead for weeks. He finally got tired of walking to the door every time.
What he did not know until I got there was that the fob housing had a hairline crack near the hinge. These flip keys take a beating because the blade swings out on a spring-loaded pivot and the housing absorbs the impact every single time. Over time the crack had let just enough flex into the PCB that the remote functions dropped out intermittently, then permanently.
I had a replacement flip key shell and the right blank on the van. Cut the blade to his vehicle on site, transferred what needed transferring, and ran programming through the OBD port. Tested every function at the door before I packed up. Lock, unlock, the blade in the ignition, engine start, the whole sequence.
The whole job was done at the curb. He had mentioned in passing that the dealer told him to bring it in, that they would need to order a key to VIN, and that he should expect a few days minimum. He said it like he had already accepted it. By the time I left he still seemed a little surprised it was handled the same afternoon he called, for a fraction of what the dealer quoted.
